    CINE PASSEIO 》

A project that recreated an old military facility as a cultural space through the film as a medium.

Cine Passeio is a project carried out to complement the revitalization plan of Riachuello Street, a historic district in the city center of Curatiba in southern Brazil.

While preserving as much as possible the military building built in 1934 for the Brazilian army, it was refurbished for new uses and opened on March 27, 2019.

Designed as a place that nurtures and disseminates arts and culture while reutilizing an old building in the city center, it was reborn as a complex cultural space where people can meet, learn, discuss and enjoy themselves.

Cine Passeio consists of two movie theatres that honor the old cinemas 'Cine Lux' and 'Cine Ritz,' which played an important part in the city's history,

an education room and a multi-purpose space.

The façade of the building, which had been neglected for a long time, was restored. The inner wall of the existing building was preserved while the damaged wooden

structures on the floor and ceiling were replaced with concrete. The basement with the main entrance and the mezzanine in an an open space between the 1st and 2nd floors allow people to stay and interact before movie screenings or classes start.

On Coreto Digital (a screening facility built by installing a large 360-degree curved LED screen and sound system onto an old structure built in 1915) in Passeio Publico,

the city's first park opened in 1886, concerts, dance, opera, and etc., including movies are transmitted and screened for free to citizens.

Citizens can feel the nostalgia of the old movies screened on the street while watching the screenings sitted on benches around the large screen.

In addition, they also offer free online and offline courses on film history and film production for low-income people from time to time

Cine Passeio promoted the circulation and permanence of people in public space, which led to enhanced vitality in nearby commercial areas and security in the city.

The urban ambience transforms people and the interaction with the urban landscape strengthens the relationship and identity of the inhabitant with the city.

Cine Passeio illustrates that while remodeling an old building itself is important, it is also equally important to focus on the contents that it offers as well as programs that make use of its facilities both inside and outside.

The integration of design, art, culture and highlighted as an instrument for social inclusion and as inducer of recovering urban public spaces.
